The Mission of the Africana Health Awareness and Action Project [AHAA] is to provide information, education, wellness and health care solutions that are culturally competent, contextually appropriate and spiritually integrated for Africana People.
The Theological/Africana context for AHAA is Shalom. “Shalom is more than the absence of violence or war; it is also interpreted to include peace, (Numbers 6:26) wellness (Genesis 29:6), at ease (Genesis 43:23), health (Psalm 38:3). This Shalom allows hope to flourish and brings healing and wholeness.”[1] Although grounded in Shalom, the practice of telling the story of the ancestors and including them in worship and ritual in a critical to Africana wellness. The traditional culture of Africans in the diaspora has been suppressed, if not destroyed; thus, if we are to name the ancestors as mandated by Scripture, we must also embrace the philosophy of Sankofa.
